The statement issued by the team explained that though the developers gave their best in the past few months, the game's Nintendo Switch port wasn't ready to meet the high expectations of THQ Nordic, nor the players of Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning. The developers were hoping to still hit a 2022 release window, but according to the game's official Twitter account, it would seem that the Switch version was delayed to 2023. When the Fatesworn expansion released for Kingdoms of Amalur, THQ Nordic hoped to capitalize on the newfound popularity, but much like with Re-Reckoning's release, the Nintendo Switch version was slated to arrive at a later date.

While the game itself gained a cult following in the years to come, many players believed that Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning would forever remain a time capsule, a monument to an ambitious idea that fell short of its vision until THQ Nordic purchased the rights in 2018, promising a remaster of the game. Misguided investments such as sponsorships and collaborations with celebrities inflated the cost of developing Kingdoms of Amalur, and when the game sold only half the copies it needed to recoup all expenses, 38 Studios ended up declaring bankruptcy as the state of Rhode Island became the new owner of the video game franchise. The horror-story development of Kingdoms of Amalur is an infamous chapter in video game history, as the loan issued by the state of Rhode Island banked on the game breaking even.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning released its Fatesworn expansion on December 14, but Switch players will unfortunately have to wait a bit longer before they can face off against Telogrus.
